About the Indian Association Hannover (IASH)

The Indian Association Hannover (IASH) is a registered non-profit and non-political association (e.V.), founded in 2010 by Dr. Bala Subramanian Ramani. What began as a student initiative became an official association in 2013 and today serves as a platform for cultural exchange, community support, and Indo-German cooperation.

IASH has been an active organization for several years and has organized benchmark cultural events in the City of Hannover, while also partnering in numerous civic and community-focused initiatives. The association works closely with the City of Hannover, the Indian Consulate General, and the Embassy of India. It promotes integration, organizes cultural events, and supports members of the Indian diaspora.

A notable example of its civic engagement is the Gandhi bust on Culemannstraße—gifted by India to the City of Hannover in 2014 and maintained by IASH ever since. In 2024, IASH curated India’s cultural program at the International Fireworks Competition in Hannover.

IASH also collaborates with several institutions to strengthen its outreach, including the International School Hannover Region (ISHR), Coracle, IHK Hannover, Haus der Religionen, the Deutsch-Indische Gesellschaft (DIG) Hannover, and the Police Department of Hannover.

Board and Functioning

The association is governed by a three-member board: President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Board members are elected for a two-year term and serve on a voluntary basis. They manage daily operations, organize events, raise funds, and represent the association publicly.
